Opposition MPs stage sit-in in Indian Parliament, demand Amit Shah’s reply
New Delhi: Opposition MPs, including those from Congress and Samajwadi Party, staged a sit-in protest in the Parliament premises on Monday, demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah appear in the House and answer questions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesting members, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, gathered near the Parliament entrance holding a banner that read “Amit Shah Sansad se gayab kyon?”
The MPs raised slogans such as “Amit Shah Jawab Do” and “Amit Shah kahan gayab hain?” and held placards reading “Chanda chor, gaddi chord” over the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case.
The Opposition also demanded a statement from the Home Minister in both Houses on police action against protesters during the July 20 demonstration in Delhi.
Congress MP KC Venugopal said the Opposition would continue pressing for the Home Minister’s explanation on the lathi-charge and firing on Delhi students.
The protest took place on the eleventh day of the Monsoon Session, amid speculation that New Delhi may introduce the FCRA Amendment Bill.
