Restrictions tightened in Jharkhand on students’ march today
Ranchi: Restrictions have been tightened and prohibitory orders clamped around the Jharkhand Assembly as students prepare to march to the Vidhan Sabha on Monday, protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment exams for the 16th consecutive day.
According to Kashmir Media Service, prohibitory orders under CrPC have been imposed within a 750-metre radius of the Assembly from August 6 to 12, between 6 am and 10 pm. Police said elaborate arrangements, including barricades and additional deployments, have been made across Ranchi.
Student leader Ravindra Paswan said protesters will not call off the march until their demand for a CBI probe is met, despite the state government claiming 98 percent of their demands, including cancellation of the 14th JPSC exam, have been addressed.
“Most of our demands have been met… But we will not compromise till our demand for a CBI probe is fulfilled,” Paswan said after talks with a government panel.
Officials said six students remain on a hunger strike. ADG Manoj Kaushik and Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan urged students to hold a peaceful demonstration and prevent anti-social elements from joining.
The administration also appealed to students to avoid violence and alleged that police were stopping protesters from other districts from entering the capital.
