Ramshackle roads in Kupwara belie Indian regime’s ‘development’ mantra: Residents
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of Kupwara district have complained of severe hardships due to the dilapidated condition of the road connecting villages, saying it exposes the hollowness of the Indian government’s development narrative in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, locals said the 3-kilometre road leading to Yemlar from Zachaldara is dotted with potholes at several spots, making travel extremely difficult for commuters.
“The condition of the road is severely pathetic yet the concerned department is watching our miseries as mute spectators,” the residents said. They said they have repeatedly appealed to the administration to macadamize the road but their pleas have gone unheard. “In winter, the situation becomes even worse and more often we are forced to carry patients on makeshift cots due to the unavailability of transport,” local resident Noor Mohammad told the media.
Another resident said the issue has been brought to the notice of the concerned department numerous times. “Every time we are told that macadamization of our road has been kept in the plan but at the end of the year, a different tale emerges,” he said.
