Congress scolds Modi regime for ‘massive fraud’ in Uttarakhand voter rolls
New Delhi: Congress MP Kumari Selja has revealed “massive malpractice” and “fraud” in the electoral rolls of Uttarakhand, accusing the BJP-led Indian government and the Election Commission of failing to protect citizens’ voting rights.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Selja along with other party leaders submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttarakhand.
Speaking to reporters, she said names of eligible voters were being arbitrarily struck off under the guise of SIR. “People are declared absent from their residence and young individuals are falsely marked as deceased. Notices are issued but never reach recipients,” she said.
Selja cited the case of Uttarakhand Congress MLA Furqan Ahmad, whose name was allegedly sought to be deleted through a Form 7 objection filed in the name of another person who later denied submitting it.
She said the issue affects lakhs of voters. “It is not just about one candidate, but about the entire democracy of Uttarakhand. Around 8 lakh people are affected. A fraud is going on there,” she stated.
The Congress MP also criticised the Election Commission for not engaging with political parties. “We are representatives. Answers must be given to the people. The Modi government must answer for keeping the EC confined like a bird in a cage,” she said.
