Sergio Gore’s Kashmir statement incomprehensible, ridiculous: Nazir Qureshi
Islamabad: Chairman of Kashmir Muslims Nazir Ahmed Qureshi has termed US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore’s recent controversial statement on Kashmir as incomprehensible and ridiculous.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Nazir Ahmed Qureshi in a statement reacting to the US ambassador’s statement, said that foreign ambassadors not only have extensive knowledge of current events but are also aware of historical facts, especially when it comes to the Kashmir dispute, which has been pending for 79 years and UN Security Council resolutions are still awaiting implementation.
He said that the ambassador of a country like the US declaring Kashmir as part of India is a clear proof of his ignorance and lack of understanding of history. He advised Sergio Gore to study the historical nature of the Kashmir dispute so that he realizes that the historical injustice he has done to please India can be redressed.
Nazir Ahmed Qureshi said that the Kashmir dispute, which the Indian rulers themselves had taken to the United Nations Security Council, and India had promised the Kashmiri people to decide their future through a free and fair plebiscite, with the world as a witness. However, he said that after 79 years, India has not only reneged on its promises, but whenever the Kashmiri people demand their fundamental right to self-determination, they are shot at.
He said that since 1989, about one lakh Kashmiris have fallen victim to Indian terrorism, their farms and fields have been destroyed, and the honour and dignity of thousands of mothers, sisters and daughters have been torn apart by Indian beasts.
In these circumstances, he said, justice demanded that the US ambassador condemn Indian terrorism and the deployment of more than one million soldiers in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said on the contrary, he made such a controversial statement that is tantamount to rubbing salt in the wounds of Kashmiris.
Nazir Ahmed Qureshi said it is a good thing that the pro-freedom leadership as well as pro-India politicians have also rejected the US ambassador’s statement as undesirable and ridiculous.
He further said that the disputed status of Kashmir is an established fact, as witnessed by the presence of UN military observers on both sides of the Line of Control. He said the people of Kashmir are struggling for the right to self-determination and in which lakhs of Kashmiris have sacrificed their lives so far.
