Modi’s fake narrative of strength and success stands exposed: Analysts

Srinagar: Political analysts have rejected the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fake narrative of strength and success as fabricated that collapses under the weight of data, international rankings and ground realities in India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The analysts while responding to the assertions of the Indian prime minister said Modi is spreading false narratives to portray himself as a strong man to hide his undeniable failures on all accounts including military, economy and democratic fronts.
The analysts said the boast that the Indian forces are able to strike inside foreign territory is reckless bluster.
They cited the April 2025 Pahalgam incident and continued low-intensity operations as proof of lack of liaison among Indian forces, and said Kashmiris continue to resist Indian illegal occupation in the occupied territory.
It said official claims of an 83 percent drop in terror incidents in occupied Jammu and Kashmir since 2020 cannot hide arbitrary arrests exceeding 2,000 people, home demolitions, book bans, 65 internet shutdowns in 2025 alone, and Freedom House’s rating of just 38 out of 100 for the territory.
The analysts noted that the slogan of peace from disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir to the India’s Northeast is contradicted by Manipur’s ethnic bloodshed with 306 killed and 49 missing since May 2023, and 24,000 people still in relief camps. They also pointed to residual Khalistani-linked blasts in Punjab districts in 2026 and continuing Maoist and Naxal grievances.
On the economy, the analysts citing former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, said without a massive downward revision of the previous year’s base, nominal growth sits closer to 2.6 to 2.8 percent.
India’s international credibility has been dented. They referred to Canada listing the India-based Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity in 2025, and US authorities in 2026 dismantling India-linked transnational criminal networks. The analysts added that India plunged to 157th out of 180 in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, which is classified by V-Dem as an electoral autocracy at 105th on the Liberal Democracy Index, and ranks 110th out of 165 on the Human Freedom Index.
The persecution of minorities continues unchecked, with 1,318 hate speech events targeting religious minorities in 2025, a 97 percent increase from 2023, and 27 Muslims killed in hate crimes by non-state actors.
