IIOJK: Indian police arrest three persons in Rajouri
Arrests part of continued crackdown on Kashmiri youth
Jammu: Indian police have arrested three persons in Rajouri district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The police arrested the three persons from the Kot Charwal area of the district. To justify the detentions, the police accused them of working for a militant organization and claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Azam, Zakir Hussain and Mohammad Mushtaq, all residents of Kot Charwal village.
Harassing and arresting Kashmiri youth on various pretexts has become a routine practice of Indian troops. Thousands of Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders and activists, are languishing in jails across IIOJK and India, with their detentions often extended on what rights groups and Kashmir watchers describe as fabricated or politically motivated charges.
India seeks to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in the occupied territory through arbitrary arrests of Kashmiris and prolonged detentions to deter them from pursuing their demand for UN-recognized right to self-determination.
