PM to raise Kashmir issue at UNGA on Sept 25: Pakistan envoy
Dar briefing foreign ministers on IIOJK situation in New York
New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will highlight the Kashmir and Palestine issues in his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has said.
Briefing media in New York, Ambassador Ahmad said the Prime Minister will address the 81st session of the UNGA and his speech will also focus on multilateral cooperation, climate change and the current global situation. He said PM Shehbaz is also expected to hold meetings with several world leaders during his visit to New York.
Pakistan is also working to arrange a meeting between the Prime Minister and Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook.
According to the Foreign Office, PM Shehbaz will present Pakistan’s position on major international issues including sustainable development, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, UN reforms and issues confronting the Global South, while drawing attention to Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is already in New York and has been holding meetings with foreign ministers and other officials ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. He is also scheduled to attend meetings on Kashmir and Palestine on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
Pakistan has been calling for an immediate end to violence in Gaza and supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on relevant UN resolutions. Islamabad has also been consistently raising the Kashmir dispute at the UN and calling for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
