India involved in killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar: Canadian PM

Ottawa, October (KMS): Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that there is evidence of India’s involvement in the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, while noting that Canada cannot guarantee such crimes will not occur on its soil again.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Canadian Prime Minister in an interview with the New York Times, said security cooperation is essential to prevent such incidents in the future; however, he could not guarantee that a crime linked to India would not happen again in Canada. This marks the first time the prime minister has spoken on the matter of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing.

Previously, Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had revealed that Indian agents killed Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Following this revelation, relations between India and Canada became extremely strained; both countries expelled diplomatic staff, and Canada suspended visa issuance for Indian citizens.

According to Canadian officials, investigations into the Nijjar case have uncovered links between Indian government agents and criminal networks operating in Canada.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service has also identified “transnational repression” as a significant issue in the context of India’s nefarious activities within Canada.

Canadian authorities have characterized these actions as instances of India’s cross-border coercion and foreign interference; meanwhile, evidence has also emerged implicating an Indian government official in the plot to assassinate a Sikh-American citizen in New York.

It is worth noting that Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in British Columbia on June 18, 2023, and Canadian police arrested four individuals in May 2024 on charges of involvement in the murder.

In October 2024, Canada expelled six Indian diplomats and consular officials in connection with the Hardeep Singh murder case.
