Pakistani Ranger’s courteous gesture to Indian officer’s wife wins online praise
Indian media hails Ranger's courtesy as mark of ‘a professional soldier’

Islamabad: A brief but striking interaction between a Pakistani Ranger and the wife of an Indian Army officer at the Attari-Wagah border has drawn widespread attention in Indian media and on social media, with viewers praising the Pakistani soldier for displaying courtesy, discipline and professional respect despite the longstanding rivalry between the two countries.
A viral video shows the Indian Army officer’s wife approaching a Pakistani Rangers soldier on the Pakistani side of the border and requesting a photograph with him. The soldier politely agrees and stands for the picture with her.
The Tribune, in a report published on Monday, described the episode as a “brief but powerful moment of courtesy” and said the soldier maintained “the same courtesy and discipline expected of a uniformed professional.” The newspaper further reported that, after the photograph, the Ranger noticed a senior Indian military officer and offered him a military salute, which the Indian officer returned.
The Tribune quoted social media users as describing the Pakistani soldier as “a professional soldier” who “salutes rank.” Another viewer commented, “India-Pakistan doesn’t matter, respect for everyone,” while a third praised the display of “Army discipline and professionalism” and respect for senior officers “regardless of nationality.” The episode was also reported by Indian news outlet RNA on October 4, which said the officer’s wife asked the Pakistani personnel for a photograph and that the soldier “politely” stood up for the picture. It said the Indian officer subsequently faced the Pakistani personnel and the two exchanged salutes.

The Indian coverage has placed the interaction against the backdrop of strained relations between New Delhi and Islamabad. RNA noted that, despite diplomatic and military tensions, the two uniformed personnel were seen observing formal military courtesy. It described the footage as a brief exchange of military courtesy rather than a political or diplomatic engagement.
The episode has also revived discussion in Indian media about the distinction between military duty and personal hostility. The Tribune observed that the encounter demonstrated how “professional duty does not necessarily erase courtesy, dignity or humanity.”
