Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq, Khawaja Lone remembered on martyrdom anniversaries in Lahore
Lahore: Kashmir Centre, Lahore, organized a prayer session at Masjid Darus Salam in Lahore on themartyrdom anniversaries of prominent Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was assassinated by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on May 21, 1990. On the same day, over 70 mourners were killed when Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire on his funeral procession in the Hawal area of Srinagar.
A large number of people from different walks of life, including religious scholars, social activists, youth, and citizens, attended the event.
During the ceremony, Allama Fida-ur-Rehman Haidari led prayers and Fateha for the departed souls of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and other martyrs of Kashmir.
Special prayers were also offered for the early freedom of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the security and stability of Pakistan, and the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
The speakers on the occasion said Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was a distinguished religious, social, and political leader of Kashmir and was regarded as an eloquent speaker, a visionary, and a powerful voice of the Kashmiri people. They said Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq played a significant role in safeguarding the religious, social, and political rights of Kashmiris and consistently advocated moderation, tolerance, and peaceful struggle.
The speakers sadi Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone Shaheed was also a wise, moderate, and people-friendly political leader of Kashmir who strongly advocated political wisdom, dialogue, and public opinion for a durable and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. They said on May 21, 2002, while attending the death anniversary ceremony of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, he was shot dead by assailants dressed in police uniforms.
They stated that personalities like Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq Shaheed and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone Shaheed were invaluable assets of the nation who set a shining example for future generations through their struggle, character, and sacrifices. They emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs of Kashmir can never be forgotten and that the nation will always remember their mission and services.
At the end of the ceremony, collective prayers were offered for the unity of the Kashmiri people, peace and stability, and the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks.
The participants also reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward the mission of the martyrs, promoting truth, public service, and unity.
