Shabbir Shah’s bail rejection ‘deeply disappointing and unjust’: Mirwaiz
Says prolonged detention has taken a toll on health of Kashmiri political prisoners
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed deep concern over the rejection of senior Hurriyat leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah’s bail plea, calling the development “deeply disappointing and unjust.”
A Special NIA Court in Jammu has rejected the recent bail plea of illegally detained Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a three-decade-old case, invoking draconian laws.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said that despite the Indian Supreme Court granting Shabbir Shah bail in another case in March this year, his incarceration had continued with the Hurriyat leader having spent nearly four decades in prisons without conviction.
He said that prolonged detention had seriously affected Shabbir Shah’s health and that he required urgent medical attention and the care of his family. Mirwaiz added that similar concerns applied to many other Kashmiri political prisoners suffering from serious health problems after years of detention and delayed trials.
Mirwaiz appealed to the Indian government, opposition leaders, civil society and all those who believe in human dignity and the right to differ in opinion to ensure the release of these prisoners and their return to their families.
