APHC pays tribute to senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmad Shah on fourth martyrdom anniversary

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has paid rich tribute to senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmad Shah on the fourth anniversary of his martyrdom in Indian custody in 2022.

Altaf Ahmad Shah, son-in-law of iconic Kashmiri pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Gilani, was affiliated with Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir. He was arrested in 2017 and lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail, where he was diagnosed with advanced-stage renal cancer. He died in custody on October 10, 2022.

In separate statements, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and other organizations described Altaf Ahmad Shah’s death in custody as a targeted killing by the BJP-led Indian government. They said that his death was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy by the Hindutva-driven BJP regime to eliminate the Hurriyat leadership languishing in Indian prisons.

They urged the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international human rights organisations to press India to immediately release all illegally detained Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders, including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Naeem Ahmad Khan and others.

The organisations also called on international bodies to play an effective role in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
