India: CJP’s protest demanding CEC’s resignation intensifies
New Delhi: Protests by the youth organization ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ against the Modi government, sparked by massive irregularities in voter lists and alleged vote theft, have gained momentum in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
Young activists have spread throughout the city, while strict restrictions have been imposed at Jantar Mantar.
The protest by the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’, demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), has intensified following revelations that lakhs of voters were removed from electoral rolls.
Youth Remain Steadfast in Demand for CEC’s Resignation
Despite the arrest and subsequent release of the Cockroach Janta Party’s founder, Abhijit, and a prominent YouTuber, the youth remain steadfast in their demand for the Election Commissioner’s resignation. As the situation escalated, police arrested thousands of protesters.
Prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was detained by police last night, remarked that such things do not happen in a democratic country. He added that Modi should not suppress people to the point where all fear vanishes.
Protesters Enraged by Police’s Indiscriminate Lathi-Charge
Meanwhile, protesters have been enraged by the police’s indiscriminate lathi-charge, and the entire city of Delhi has been brought to a standstill. Metro stations are closed, internet services have been suspended, and citizens are confined to their homes.
Protesters allege that the Election Commission of India colluded with the BJP during the electoral process. They insist that the Chief Election Commissioner must step down and reforms must be implemented within the Election Commission.
Opposition Leaders Call on Civil Society to Join Protest
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have pledged their support for the protest and are participating in it themselves. They have also called on civil society to join the demonstrations.
According to Indian media, 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the city, including at Jantar Mantar. Police have detained approximately 10,000 people, including students, farmers, and members of Dalit organizations.
