Hurriyat leaders, parties condemn uniform Juma sermon decision in IIOJK

Srinagar: Hurriyat leaders and parties, have strongly condemned the reported decision of the New Delhi BJP controlled Waqf Board to introduce a uniform Friday sermon across mosques in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing it as interference in religious affairs.

Hurriyat leaders and parties, including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Young Men’s League (JKYML) Naseer Wani, in their separate statements issued in Srinagar, strongly condemning the reported decision, said mosques are sacred places of worship, and Friday sermons must reflect Islamic teachings and principles under the guidance of qualified religious scholars.

The statements expressed concern over the participation of Islamic scholars in a meeting with Waqf Boards BJP led Chairperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, urging Ulemas to protect the independence of religious institutions and refrain from supporting any decision that could undermine Islamic teachings and the religious autonomy of Muslim communities.

They warned that attempts to impose uniform sermons through administrative orders would not be accepted if they conflicted with Islamic principles and the religious sentiments of Muslims.

The statements called upon religious scholars, the Muslim community and relevant institutions to raise their voices peacefully against any measure they believe contradicts Islamic teachings and to safeguard the religious rights of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir.
