India intensifies military drills, surveillance across IIOJK

Defense experts fear another false flag, possible regional escalation

Srinagar : Indian forces have intensified military drills and surveillance across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, raising concerns over expanded policing and potential regional escalation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Army and Police, in coordination with Railway Police, Railway Protection Force and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted an “anti-fidayeen” mock drill at Harnag Railway Station in Kulgam.

Police officials said the exercise assessed operational preparedness and coordination among Indian agencies. Road cut-offs were established at designated locations, while participating personnel practised responses to a simulated threat. The drill also included procedures for evacuating passengers and civilians.

Officials said the exercise aimed to improve response times and strengthen coordination during emergencies.

Surveillance and preventive policing intensified

Meanwhile, Handwara Senior Superintendent of Police Sajad Khaliq Bhat reviewed security arrangements and policing priorities in Kupwara district.

The review covered investigations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). It also examined security hotspots, vulnerability mapping, deployments and law-and-order preparedness.
Bhat directed officers to intensify patrolling and checkpoint inspections. He called for heightened vigilance at sensitive locations and timely preventive action.

He also stressed surveillance outside prisons, subject to established legal procedures. The SSP directed officers to monitor social media for provocative, misleading and unlawful content. He called for appropriate legal action against material considered capable of disturbing public order.

Regional tensions heighten concerns

The latest developments highlight the extensive military apparatus operating across the occupied territory. While authorities describe the measures as necessary for preparedness, expanded surveillance and preventive policing raise questions about civil liberties and the potential impact on Kashmiris’ fundamental rights.

Against the backdrop of the May 2025 India-Pakistan military confrontation, concerns over possible escalation also remain significant. Defence analysts have expressed suspicions that intensified military exercises could provide cover for a potential false-flag operation or cross-border military action.
