India approves 671 kanals for industrial use in Samba

Land transfers raise concerns over demographic changes in disputed Kashmir

Srinagar : The Indian-controlled administration has approved 671 kanals of land for an industrial park in Samba district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the land will be transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department. The project falls under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna (BHAVYA) scheme.

Investment drive and land transfers

Land transfers and industrial policies have raised broader concerns over Kashmir’s future. Kashmir remains an internationally disputed territory whose final status remains unresolved under United Nations resolutions.

Critics of India’s post-August 2019 policies have expressed concerns over demographic changes. They argue that land allocation, domicile rules and settlement-related measures could alter Kashmir’s population composition.
The latest approval has renewed questions about safeguards for local land rights. It has also highlighted concerns over the implications of industrial development in a disputed territory.

Kashmiris continue to demand their right to self-determination under relevant United Nations resolutions. They maintain that Kashmir’s final status must reflect their aspirations.
