One killed, four injured in armed attack in India’s Manipur
Kuki villagers say Naga militants targeted civilians near Myanmar border

Imphal : One person was killed and four others injured in an armed attack in India’s northeastern state of Manipur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, armed men attacked five villagers at Chassad, a Kuki village in Kamjong district, near the Myanmar border. The incident occurred on October 17.
The injured were taken to a hospital. They are currently receiving treatment.
Village leaders among injured
The injured include Chassad village chief Thangjahou Haokip and Phungtha village chief Seipao Haokip. Chassad Village Authority secretary Thanggin Thouthang and authority member S. Khailun Haokip were also injured.
Villagers said Seipao Haokip had been internally displaced by earlier violence. He had fled his native village elsewhere in the district.
Kuki villagers alleged that Naga militants ambushed the five men while they repaired power lines. The identity of the person killed could not be independently verified.
Tribal tensions persist
The Kangpokpi-based Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) condemned the alleged attack. It described the alleged perpetrators as “Tangkhul-led militants” and denounced the targeting of civilians.
Tangkhuls are a Naga community, while the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) has a strong base among them.
The incident highlights continuing security concerns in Manipur’s border areas. It also underscores the risks faced by civilians amid tensions between communities.
