Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan Challenges ‘Leave India’ Notice in High Court

Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan has challenged a notice directing him to leave India by October 28 in the Mumbai High Court.

In his petition, he argues that the notice issued to him provides no reasons for the decision and offers no opportunity to respond to the alleged violations.

Imran Khan received the ‘Leave India’ notice from the Mumbai office of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) following his participation in a protest in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The notice identifies the 43-year-old actor as a US citizen and warns that legal action will be taken against him if he fails to leave India by the specified date.

In his petition, Imran Khan has described the notice as illegal, unreasonable and unconstitutional. The notice states that he violated provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. However, Imran Khan argued in his application that no provision in existing laws or regulations prevents an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder from participating in a peaceful protest.

On October 10, Imran Khan was briefly taken into custody during a protest at Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. A few days later, he received the notice from the FRRO.
