UP police arrests nine Muslim youth in two months over fake charges
Lucknow: The police in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have arrested nine innocent Muslim youth in the last two months on false charges.
According to Kashmir Media Service, these youth have been illegally detained under the guise of a crackdown on an alleged “ISIS module”. They are all current and former students of Aligarh Muslim University and were arrested from different places inside and outside the state.
The arrested youth have been identified as Abdullah Arsalan, Maaz Bin Tariq, Wajihudeen, Raqib Imam, Muhammad Noman, Naved Siddiqui, Muhammad Nazim, Abdul Samad Malik and Faraz Ahmed.
All of the arrested youth were affiliated with the SAMU (Students of Aligarh Muslim University), an informal student body, which has been actively working inside the campus for years.
“Most of the activities of SAMU are related to preserving the spiritual integrity of human life against the corruption of modernity and liberalism,” a former student of AMU told Maktoob, an online news portal, on the condition of anonymity.
An AMU official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Wire, online news organization, that the police claims were “baseless.”
The AMU proctor Wasim Ali said that no state agency had provided them with any official information on the arrests while he got to know about them from the media, as reported by The Wire.
