Congress workers clash with police as Rahul denied entry into Guwahati

Guwahati: The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi encountered clashes, today, as it was prevented from entering Guwahati city, Assam, India.

The police had erected barricades at two locations to obstruct the Yatra, leading to protests from Congress workers who reportedly broke barricades and raised slogans in response.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier announced that the Yatra would not be permitted to enter the city. As a result, the police used force to restrain Congress workers.

Rahul Gandhi, addressing party supporters on the outskirts of the city after the confrontation, stated, “We have broken barricades, but will not break the law.”

He maintaining emphasized that their opposition was directed towards the Chief Minister, whom he accused of being “most corrupt.”

During his address, Gandhi highlighted that BJP President J.P. Nadda had taken the same route but was not impeded. He expressed confidence in defeating the BJP in Assam and forming a Congress government in the near future.

Despite the clashes, the Yatra continued along the designated route, and Rahul Gandhi is expected to be in Assam until Thursday.
