Manipur violence engulfs Indian army, six injured after Kuki soldier opens fire on colleagues
Imphal: In what believed as Manipur violence has engulfed Indian army as well, a soldier from Kuki tribe committed suicide after opening fire on colleagues injuring six of them in the state.
The soldier associated with Assam Rifles opened fire at his colleagues before shooting himself in a camp in South Manipur at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district, close to the border with Myanmar country.
A statement from Assam Rifles said the soldier died while six other personnel were injured in the firing that took place in the camp situated at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district.
“All injured have been evacuated to a military hospital for further treatment and reported to be stable,” said the statement of Assam Rifles, which was shared by Manipur police.
The deceased army man was a Kuki and joined his duty on January 20 after leave.
