Celebrating India’s Republic Day in UN disputed IIOJK termed as a cruel joke

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, posters disseminated by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and pro-freedom organizations have urged people to observe January 26, the Indian Republic Day, as a Black Day, tomorrow.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the posters call for a boycott of all official celebrations, asserting that India lacks legal and moral justification for commemorating its Republic Day in a territory occupied against the will of the Kashmiri people.

The posters, which have surfaced in Srinagar and other areas, label the Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir as a cruel joke and emphasize the rejection of India’s presence in the region by the Kashmiri populace. People are encouraged to observe a strike, hoist black flags, and offer special prayers on January 26 to convey to the world that it is not a Republic Day but a Black Day for them.

Additionally, the posters highlight the anniversaries of the Handwara massacre on January 25, 1990, and the Kupwara incident on January 27, 1994. The former resulted in the martyrdom of at least 21 Kashmiris when Indian troops opened fire on peaceful protesters. The latter saw the death of 27 innocent Kashmiris and injuries to several others as troops reportedly retaliated against a shutdown observed on Indian Republic Day.

This development reflects the ongoing resistance and sentiments of the people, particularly among groups advocating for freedom and expressing opposition to Indian occu pation of Jammu and Kashmir.
