People protest against unscheduled power cuts in IIOJK’s Rajouri
Jammu: Residents of Rajouri, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including those from Thannamandi, Behrote, Budhal, Koteranka, Manjakote, and Darhal, have raised their voices in unison against the persistent and unscheduled power cuts.
According to Kashmir Media Service, people have lodged strong protests against the Power Development Department (PDD/JPDCL), demanding immediate action to address the issue.
Over the past few weeks, the region has witnessed frequent and prolonged power outages, causing immense inconvenience to households, businesses, and students preparing for examinations. These unscheduled cuts have disrupted daily life and hindered economic activities, drawing widespread criticism from the public.
Speaking during the protest, locals highlighted the severe impact of these power cuts, particularly in winter when reliable electricity is essential for heating and other basic needs. “We are paying our bills on time, yet we are subjected to such unreliable electricity supply. The PDD must take immediate steps to resolve this issue,” said a resident from Behrote.
Protesters from Budhal and Koteranka pointed out that the outages were not only affecting daily life but also threatening the livelihoods of small-scale businesses.
The people have urged the administration to take swift measures to put an end to these unscheduled power cuts. They have also called for the PDD to issue a clear and reliable power schedule to prevent further inconvenience.
Meanwhile, the residents of Karnah area of Kupwara district are also facing a severe power crisis as they get only four hours of electricity in 24 hours, due to which the residents of the area are very worried.
Tetwal and Tangdar blocks of Karnah are facing an 80 percent reduction in power supply.
People say they are facing the worst power outage, with students and the business community particularly affected.
People have urged the electricity department to resolve the power problem immediately, otherwise they will be forced to come out on the streets to protest.
