Political parties sans BJP condemn Islamophobic “The Kerala Story” film
Kerala: The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has condemned Islamophobic “The Kerala Story,” a documentary film that explores the “Love Jihad” in Kerala, India, calling it “divisive” and “communal.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) have expressed concerns that the film’s divisive messaging could exacerbate societal polarization during the Lok Sabha campaign. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seen as using the film to advance its own divisive political agenda.
“Love Jihad” is a conspiracy theory propagated by Hindutva groups in India that claims Muslim men deliberately marry non-Muslim women to convert them to Islam.
The film was screened in Idukki, Kerala, recently.
Both the LDF and UDF are concerned about the potential impact of the film on communal harmony in Kerala. The state has a history of religious tensions, and politicians are wary of anything that could further divide society.
The screening of “The Kerala Story” has also drawn strong reactions from religious groups.
