MMU vows to counter sectarian discord amid Modi regime’ conspiracies in IIOJK

Srinagar: Hinting at the Narendra Modi-led Hindutva regime’s conspiracies to stoke communal differences in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the top Muslim religious platform Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has declared that no attempts would be permitted to spread sectarian discord to disrupt peace and harmony in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU, in a statement released after a meeting at the residence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar, expressed a strong commitment to preserving the territory’s traditional communal harmony.

The MMU, a coalition of various religious scholars and clergy in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, made an earnest appeal to scholars, mosque imams, and social media influencers from various schools of thought and sects to respect each other’s beliefs.

The MMU emphasized that while everyone is free to follow their own practices, they should refrain from targeting the beliefs of other sects in lectures, sermons, addresses, or discussions on social media or any other platform, as such actions could lead to conflict.

The special meeting was presided over by MMU patron Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq and attended by notable figures including Maulana Rahmatullah Mir al-Qasimi, Agha Syed Hassan al-Moosvi al-Safawi, Grand Mufti of Kashmir Mufti Nasir ul-Islam Farooqi, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Dr. Abdul Latif al-Kindi, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Agha Syed Mohammad Hadi al-Moosvi, Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keng, and M.S. Rehman Shams.

The Majlis issued a unified statement emphasizing the importance of unity under the banner of Tawheed to address the issues and challenges faced by the Muslim community.

The MMU condemned recent efforts by certain groups to incite sectarian discord, describing these actions as regretful and reprehensible. The ulema present at the meeting stressed that all religious personalities of Islam should be respected by all, and that since all Muslims share a common religion and goals, it is detrimental to the entire ummah when minor differences are exploited to advance narrow sectarian objectives at the expense of the broader interests of the Muslim community in Kashmir.

The MMU made it clear that it would not tolerate provocations, sectarian discord, or the denigration of each other’s beliefs. As a responsible and robust forum representing the Muslims of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the MMU vowed to confront disruptive elements with full force and hold them accountable in the public domain.

The MMU also called upon all members of the Kashmiri Muslim community, civil society, and media to play their part as responsible citizens in maintaining communal cohesion during these challenging times.

Additionally, the meeting concluded with a decision to broaden the forum and strengthen its influence by including more religious organizations and leading scholars from across Jammu and Kashmir in the Majlis, in the cause of fostering inter-Muslim unity.
