Authorities’ indifference exposed: Women protest severe water crisis in Srinagar

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, women took to the streets in the Abi Guzar area of Srinagar city to protest against the authorities’ alarming indifference to their basic needs, particularly amid a severe water crisis gripping the area.

According to Kashmir Media Service, gathering outside the Public Health Engineering (PHE) office on Exchange Road in the city, demonstrators raised slogans demanding immediate action to address the water scarcity.

Protesters expressed their desperation, stating, “We can’t cook, we can’t clean, and we can’t even provide our children with enough water to drink,” highlighting the authorities’ neglect of their plight.

This is not the first instance of protest by the women of Abi Guzar; just days earlier, they voiced similar grievances, underscoring the escalating urgency of the situation. The persistent water scarcity is severely impacting daily life, with residents struggling to access basic amenities.

Shameema Akhtar, a local resident, lamented, “Things have gone from bad to worse over the past few weeks,” reflecting the frustration of the community.

The protesters said that the occupation authorities were pursuing anti-people policies that disregard the pressing needs of the people.
