Youth killed by police torture in Tripura
Agartala: A 26-year-old youth died in his residence because of torture during police custody in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Tripura state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, an officer said, Badal Tripura, who was arrested on the charge of theft at Sabroom in South district, died after he was tortured during police custody.
He died in his residence because of torture during police custody, he added.
Five police personnel posted at Manubazar police station have been detained following complaint of torture by the victim’s family, Sabroom SDPO Nityananda Sarkar said.
Angry locals staged a demonstration near the police station and demanded exemplary punishment of the police personnel who “tortured the arrested person leading to his death”. They also put up a road blockade on the Agartala-Sabroom highway at Manubzar.
The victim’s family has lodged a complaint said that Badal died of torture by two policemen and three special police officers, the SDPO said.
A case was registered against the five police personnel and detained them following the complaint, he said.
On the other hand, in Bengaluru city, a 41-year-old man was killed by his wife and later killed himself by committing suicide, police officers said .
Meanwhile, four people were killed and many injured in a multiple vehicle collision on Jewargi road in Kalaburagi area of Karnataka state.
