Bandipora residents protest against anti-people policies of occupation regime
Srinagar: Residents of Kanbathi village in Bandipora district, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, staged a protest against anti-people policies of the Modi-led Indian regime, blocking the Sopore-Bandipora road.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the villagers condemned the long-standing failure of authorities to ensure clean drinking water, an issue unresolved for years despite multiple pleas to the Jal Shakti Department. Locals said Inian officials are diverting their water supply scheme to another area, leaving them dependent on contaminated local streams. Protesters lamented the need to walk over a kilometer to fetch water, calling the inaction of authorities a glaring disregard for basic human needs.
Farooq Ahmad Kawa, a resident, stated, “Our water supply scheme, approved in 2008, remains non-functional. This negligence forces us to drink unsafe water while our calls for redressal go unheard.”
Another protester, a woman, highlighted the disproportionate burden on women, who must travel far distances for water, saying, “The authorities make false promises of resolving the crisis, but we continue to suffer in silence.”
The demonstration, which saw hundreds of men and women participating, raised slogans against government neglect. Protesters demanded immediate intervention to restore potable water to Kanbathi village and warned of continuing protests until their basic needs are met.
