72-hour strike begins against ropeway project in Reasi
Jammu: A 72-hour strike has begun in Katra, Reasi district of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in protest against a ropeway project, which is seen as a deliberate attempt by the Modi regime to harm the economic interests of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the shutdown, announced by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti, has been supported by local pony wallas, shopkeepers and other business owners who are demanding the cancellation of the project.
The strike, which commenced on Wednesday, sees all activities in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, suspended. A spokesperson for the Samiti urged local residents to fully support the strike to ensure its success, highlighting the deep opposition to the ropeway project.
Opponents of the project argue that it will disrupt the livelihoods of locals, particularly the pony wallas and shopkeepers, and potentially harm the sacred environment surrounding the shrine.
