Zakia Jafri who fought legal battle against Modi over Gujarat riots dies

Ahmedabad: Zakia Jafri, known for her relentless legal battle for justice for her slain husband and other victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots, passed away at 86 in Ahmedabad, India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the widow of MP Ehsan Jafri fought for nearly two decades to hold officials, including then-Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, accountable for the Gulberg Society massacre, where her husband and 67 others were killed.
Despite the Indian Supreme Court’s 2022 dismissal of her plea against the clean chit to Modi and others, Zakia’s fight became a symbol of resilience. Her efforts ensured a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the riots, keeping the quest for justice alive.
