India finds it hard to balance ties between Russia & West amid Macron-Modi talks

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has said that he spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to brief him on the recent Paris meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and members of the Coalition of the Willing, stressing joint efforts to achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Macron in a social media statement said, “Building on our friendship and our strategic partnership, we will continue moving forward together to trace this path toward peace.”
Analysts believe such exchanges highlight the increasing difficulty for New Delhi in maintaining its balancing act between Moscow and Western capitals. While India has traditionally depended on Russia for defence and energy supplies, pressure from the United States and Europe to fall in line with their stance on Ukraine is intensifying.
Observers maintain that India’s attempts to project neutrality are complicated by its growing strategic partnership with the US and France, particularly in defence and technology sectors, while it also seeks to preserve its historical ties with Moscow.
The Ukraine conflict, they note, has placed India in a precarious position, compelling it to carefully navigate between its traditional ally Russia and its expanding partnerships with Western powers.
