NIA arrests Bihar president of PFI on eve of election

New Delhi: The infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the Bihar state president of the Popular Front of India (PFI) in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Bihar state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mahboob Alam, alias Mahboob Alam Nadvi, a resident of Hasanganj area of Katihar district, Bihar, was arrested by Indian police from Kishanganj. He is the 19th Muslim political leader of the party to be arrested and charge-sheeted in the fake case, which was initially registered by the local police against 26 persons.
The Popular Front of India (PFI) was banned by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs of the BJP government under black law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), on 28th September 2022 for a period of five years. PFI was founded in 2006 with the merger of the Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and the National Development Front (NDF). The party was popular and was countering Hindutva groups and their hate Muslim ideology. The Indian agency has attached 35 immovable properties worth ₹56.56 crore of the Popular Front of India
The case involved PFI associates in unlawful and anti-India activities and against the Hindutva hate and anti-Muslim policies.
The 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November 2025.
The BJP government arrested thousands of Muslims, including students, scholars, businessmen and political leaders, of PFI in India and silenced their political voices.
