APHC calls India’s approach to IIOJK ‘absolutely unrealistic’
Spokesman expresses concern over plight of jailed leaders
Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed serious concern over the plight of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in various jails across India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, condemned the inhumane treatment being meted out to Kashmiri political prisoners by jail authorities.
The statement noted that due to the denial of basic facilities, including medical care, many detainees are suffering from multiple health disorders, with their condition deteriorating day by day.
The spokesman said that while the world observes the International Day of Non-Violence today, such observances hold little meaning for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, where the Indian government under Narendra Modi continues to commit war crimes and human rights violations with impunity.
Terming India’s approach to the Kashmir dispute as “absolutely unrealistic and arrogant,” the APHC stated that a political issue like Kashmir cannot be resolved through military means. It warned that such an approach only invites further death and destruction on an unimaginable scale.
The statement strongly condemned India’s brute use of military force to crush the political aspirations of the Kashmiri people, who are demanding their internationally recognized right to self-determination—a right endorsed by multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The spokesman added that in a democratic and civilized world, deploying over one million Indian troops against the relatively small population of the Kashmir Valley, as well as the regions of Jammu and Ladakh, constitutes a blatant act of state terrorism and violence. This deployment, he said, results in the highest military-to-civilian ratio anywhere in the world.
The APHC also refuted India’s claims of so-called “normalcy” in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), stating that since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, the territory has remained in turmoil. The people continue to suffer under an intensified military and police siege, facing killings, maiming, torture, arbitrary arrests, and widespread humiliation.
The APHC spokesman urged the United Nations Secretary-General to take urgent cognizance of the grave situation in IIOJK and to play an effective role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Meanwhile, APHC spokesman also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of son of the APHC-AJK leader Advocate Pervaiz Ahmed Shah. He extending heartfelt condolences and deep sympathy to the bereaved family, and prayed for the highest place in paradise and patience and fortitude for their families and loved ones in this hour of grief.
APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Parvez Ahmed Shah lost his only son, 21-year-old Farah-ur-Rehman, a final-year engineering student at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences (GIK) to a traffic accident. He had sustained critical injuries in the accident a few days ago and, today, succumbed to his injuries, departing for his eternal abode.
