Powerful car blast near Delhi Metro station kills 9

New Delhi: At least nine people were killed in a powerful car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in India’s capital, New Delhi, on Monday evening.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the blast occurred close to Gate No. 1 of the metro station and was so intense that it triggered a massive fire, engulfing nearby vehicles. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as thick plumes of smoke rose from the site.

The Delhi Fire Department said that the explosion set six cars and three rickshaws ablaze before firefighters brought the flames under control. The bodies of the victims have been shifted to a hospital for identification and post-mortem.

Indian media reports said the cause of the blast remains unclear, and security agencies have cordoned off the area to investigate whether the explosion was accidental or the result of a deliberate act.
