Indian forces further tighten grip across Jammu ahead of New Year

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian forces have been put on high alert across the Jammu region ahead of the New Year, intensifying military operations in both border and hinterland areas under the pretext of security concerns.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian Army, police and Central Armed Police Forces have stepped up so-called area domination operations in all ten districts of Jammu region, including Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch. The region has been placed under heightened surveillance, with additional checkpoints, patrols and raids launched amid claims of suspected militant presence.

Along the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch and in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, forces have been deployed in a state of maximum alert. The Border Security Force and police are conducting aggressive searches in villages, including Rangoor and Malluchak in Samba district, ostensibly to enhance operational control.

In the hinterland areas, Indian forces are carrying out cordon-and-search operations and house raids, particularly in rural and remote localities, which residents say have created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Senior army and police officers have also been making regular visits to supervise operations.

Observers note that such intensified military measures, especially during festive periods, reflect India’s continued reliance on force in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, further shrinking civic space and subjecting the local population to collective pressure under the guise of security.
