Growing global concern over scandals of fake degrees, educational certificates in India

Islamabad: There is growing global concern over the scandals of fake degrees and educational certificates in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a report by Australia’s leading newspaper The Australia Today said that many countries, including Australia, have expressed concerns over the use of fake degrees and certificates associated with the Indian education system.

Australian Senator Malcolm Roberts, while describing the issue as a serious threat to Australia’s visa and immigration system, said that Indian police recovered more than 100,000 fake certificates from 22 universities during various operations. According to him, these fake degrees and certificates were used for jobs and visa applications abroad.

According to reports, fake educational certificates were sold in India for between 1,350 and 7,300 Australian dollars. Australian authorities say that more than 23,000 foreign students have been caught in Australia with fake degrees, after which the visa system has been further tightened.

On the other hand, the Indian newspaper The Commune has also admitted that 11 people were arrested in various Indian states for selling fake educational certificates, who were allegedly defrauding crores of rupees.

According to the American Institute for Immigration Studies, the US Consulate has declared Chennai a major center of H-1B visa fraud. The institute says that fake degrees, bank statements and other documents are being sold in India under an organized network.

According to experts, this educational fraud is becoming a major challenge not only for the security of foreign countries but also for the reputation of the global education and immigration system, which requires joint measures at the international level. KMS—15A
