Modi regime approves construction of 500 bunkers in Baramulla alone
Massive bunker building reflects India’s possible misadventure: Analysts

Srinagar: The Indian government has greenlit the construction of over 500 bunkers in Baramulla district, raising concerns of another possible misadventure in the region. Analysts view this move as a reflection of India’s aggressive military posture, especially in light of the May 2025 conflict and ongoing cordon-and-search operations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the bunkers have been sanctioned by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs for LoC-adjacent areas in Uri sector of Baramulla. Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, said that the locations have been identified by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Uri, prioritizing villages situated within a 0–5 km radius of the LoC and those repeatedly exposed to shelling.
“The first phase will cover over 500 bunkers, with numbers slated to increase progressively in subsequent phases,” the DC said.
The bunker construction proposal follows intensified CASOs, night raids, mass frisking drives and searches across Baramulla, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts. Indian forces have also made heavy deployments along the LoC, while procurement of advanced weaponry and surveillance systems has accelerated under New Delhi’s so-called security grid expansion.
Human rights observers note that the rapid militarization of civilian spaces—combined with intensified operations, raids and surveillance—has further compounded the sense of insecurity among LoC residents, who continue to live between uncertainty and conflict.
