Nine dead, dozens injured in Chhattisgarh power plant blast; Explosions spark panic in Madhya Pradesh

Raipur: At least nine people were killed and dozens injured after a powerful explosion at a power plant in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the blast occurred in a boiler tube at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitari village of Sakti district, causing chaos and a stampede-like situation as workers rushed for safety. Authorities said around 30 to 40 workers sustained serious injuries, several of them in critical condition. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The premises witnessed scenes of panic as workers scrambled to escape following the blast.

Police officials said the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Meanwhile, rescue teams, along with district administration officials, rushed to the site and launched operations to locate and evacuated workers feared trapped inside the damaged structure. Emergency crews continued efforts amid concerns of further risks at the plant.

In a separate incident, panic gripped the Pithampur industrial area in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh after three powerful explosions rocked a waste management plant, operated by Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited.

The blasts, reportedly heard up to a kilometre away, sent shockwaves through nearby villages, with residents reporting tremor-like effects. The plant had previously drawn attention for incinerating toxic waste linked to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

Police teams and district administration officials rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident. Pithampur City Superintendent of Police, Ravi Soner, told media persons that the situation is under control and that a detailed investigation is underway.
