UN must hold India accountable for war crimes against Kashmiris: APHC

Kashmir resolution key to peace and development in region: Spokesperson

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the United Nations and the international community to hold India accountable for grave human rights violations and war crimes against the oppressed Kashmiris.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India is attempting to mislead the international community through a false narrative on the UN-recognized disputed territory, with the aim of diverting attention from the core issue of Kashmir.

He expressed serious concern over ongoing cordon and search operations, house raids, arbitrary arrests of youth, and harassment of women and children in Srinagar and other areas. He said young people are routinely summoned to police stations and military camps, where they are subjected to intimidation and later booked under black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

He said these measures are aimed at suppressing dissent and intimidating Kashmiris away from their legitimate freedom struggle.

The spokesperson said that after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in August 2019, the BJP-led Indian government intensified its repressive policies in IIOJK, which he said are part of a broader plan to alter the Muslim majority territory’s demographic and cultural identity. He further said that the confiscation and demolition of houses, land and other properties belonging to Kashmiris has become a routine practice under the current administration.

Despite these measures, he added, the resilient people of Kashmir continue to resist Indian policies and remain committed to taking their movement, sustained by the sacrifices of martyrs, to its logical conclusion.

He reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir remains a political and internationally recognized dispute involving the future of over 15 million people, which India is attempting to resolve through military means.

He urged India to adopt a realistic approach, honour its commitments to the Kashmiri people, and create a conducive environment for a UN-supervised plebiscite.

The APHC emphasized that lasting peace, stability, and development in the region are only possible through the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
