Manipur crisis deepens as state authority collapses

Imphal: Manipur is witnessing a collapse of state authority as New Delhi’s militarized approach continues to deepen alienation and instability in the state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, despite the deployment of heavy security forces, Indian military convoys and paramilitary units have been attacked multiple times by local groups, exposing New Delhi’s failure to address underlying grievances.
Observers said instead of pursuing dialogue, the Government of India has responded with more troops, more curfews and repeated internet shutdowns, measures that have only weakened state legitimacy.
Grieving civilians have been targeted, tear-gassed and arrested, reinforcing perceptions that one community is being abandoned and further deepening local mistrust. They noted that security measures are increasingly replacing political engagement. The growing militarization of Manipur raises serious questions about India’s democratic credentials, with children paying the price for Delhi’s mishandling of the ethnic conflict.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity and various valley-based groups have organized rallies questioning Delhi’s accountability and demanding action, while police use of force has further aggravated public anger.
