Daily wagers protest in Jammu against IIOJK regime’s anti-worker policies

Jammu: Daily wage workers of Public Health Engineering department held a strong protest demonstration outside the office of Chief Engineer, PHE, in Jammu, opposing the regime’s anti-worker policies.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a large number of PHE workers from four Divisions of Jammu Urban assembled under the banner of PHE United Front.

Senior leaders Ravi Hans, Rajinder Singh Taj, Hoshiar Singh and others led the protest while workers raised slogans against the IIOJK administration.

The workers opposed the order directing all daily rated employees of four PHE divisions to upload their personal details on a mobile phone application for attendance.

The order also warned that salaries of workers failing to register would be withheld.

Addressing media, Ravi Hans said the regime had earlier attempted to register daily wagers with a private NGO, a move whose “designs were exposed”.

He said the administration was now trying to “play smart” again by forcing workers to share sensitive details on unknown applications, even as the public has been warned against sharing data on unverified apps.

The protesters demanded installation of biometric attendance machines at water/pumping stations and offices instead of forcing field staff to use mobile apps. They termed the order “anti-worker and insensitive”.

The United Front warned that if the controversial order was not withdrawn immediately, employees of all four PHE Divisions of Jammu Urban would be forced to launch an indefinite strike.
