BJP regime orders fresh probe into over 1,100 madrasas in Bihar

New Delhi: The Hindutva-led Indian government has ordered a fresh probe into more than 1,100 Islamic schools in Bihar, further intensifying scrutiny of Muslim educational institutions under BJP-ruled administrations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the latest inspection drive targets 1,128 recognized and government-aided madrasas in Bihar. The move follows similar investigations into Islamic seminaries in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, another BJP-governed state, raising concerns among Muslim leaders and educators over what they describe a pattern of selective targeting of Muslim institutions.

The decision has sparked criticism as the institutions concerned have already undergone official verification and have been operating under government recognition for decades.

The issue was recently raised in the Bihar Legislative Council by member Professor Sanjay Kumar Singh, who questioned the rationale behind launching fresh inspections of the 1,128 madrasas. In a letter to the state’s Education Minister, he pointed out that these institutions had already completed verification requirements and that their teachers and staff had been receiving government salaries based on those approvals for years.

Singh urged authorities to exempt institutions that have already met official standards, arguing that repeated verification exercises impose unnecessary administrative burdens on educational institutions. He warned that such measures could create uncertainty among teachers and employees whose livelihoods depend on the timely salary payments.

Although the authorities claim that the inspections are intended to assess educational quality and administrative performance, Muslim educators and community representatives view the move as part of a growing trend of increased state scrutiny of Islamic institutions in BJP-ruled states, fueling concerns about discrimination and marginalization of the Muslim community in Modi’s India.
