Hindutva leader’s call for killing unborn Muslim children renews concerns over rising Islamophobia in India

Dehradun: Hindutva leader and Uttarakhand state president of the Hindu Raksha Dal, Lalit Sharma, has triggered widespread outrage after making inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks threatening violence against Muslim women and their unborn children.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a video circulating on social media shows Sharma addressing a gathering and referring to Muslims as “Jihadis”. In the speech, he threatened violence against unborn children of Muslim women, saying, “Whatever offspring is in their womb, we will take them all out and kill them.” The remarks have been widely condemned as hate speech and an incitement to violence and communal hatred.

The video quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from journalists, activists and social media users, who described the comments as inhuman dangerous and contrary to Indian law. Many questioned the failure of authorities to take strict action despite Sharma’s repeated history of provocative statements.

Journalist Wasim Akram Tyagi called for immediate intervention against Sharma, questioning the silence of the Uttarakhand government and law enforcement agencies. He noted that Sharma has repeatedly delivered hate-filled speeches without facing meaningful consequences.

Activist and former journalist Prashant Kanojia also condemned the remarks, saying, “Lalit Sharma boasts about Yogi Model! He says that he will kill children from the wombs of Muslim women! India is doomed!”

Reportedly, an FIR has been registered against Sharma and the Hindu Raksha Dal following complaints over the video. However, critics argue that merely filing a case is insufficient, citing Sharma’s repeated involvement in hate speeches, anti-Muslim campaigns and other provocative activities.

Users have expressed frustration over selective enforcement of law. One comment noted: “This man has been giving controversial and inflammatory statements repeatedly, but the police turn a deaf ear.”

The incident has once again reignited concerns over rising hate speech, communal polarization and the growing influence of Hindutva groups in shaping India’s social and political environment.
