Police remove loudspeakers from UP mosque, Imam booked

New Delhi: Loudspeakers of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh were removed in Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh state of India for making Sahar and Iftar announcements.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a police official confirmed that the loudspeakers were removed from a mosque in Sambhal district for “violation of rules” related to control of noise emanating from places of worship.
A case has also been registered against the Imam.
The incident was reported by beat constable Jitender Kumar, said the FIR.
The name of the mosque’s Imam, Shakeel Shamsi, son of Abdul Shamad Shamsi, was mentioned in the FIR.
In 2022, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government issued an order to restrict the use of loudspeakers at places of worship, apparently to target Muslims.
