Congress demands Modi break silence over Ram temple donation scandal
New Delhii: The Congress has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent over the embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, describing it as a “direct assault on the religious faith of crores of people” across India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the criticism came amid a renewed political confrontation after Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai said he was arrested by police on Monday while on his way at the Ram temple in Ayodhya along with a party delegation.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the trust managing the temple was formed without proper procedure and excluded from the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
In a post on X, Ramesh said, “PM Modi’s silence on the looting in Shri Ram Mandir is a direct assault on the religious faith of crores of people in the country”. He further remarked, “The Modi government formed the trust without any transparent criteria or public consultation, including RSS members in it. Then the entire trust was also kept out of RTI. Modi ji, break your silence.”
Earlier, Ajay Rai said he was taken into custody shortly after his arriving in Ayodhya. Condemning the move, he termed it another example of the BJP government’s “dictatorial” approach.
“The dictatorship of the BJP government is at its peak. A delegation of the Uttar Pradesh Congress was scheduled to visit Ayodhya today to offer prayers. As soon as I arrived in Ayodhya, the BJP government panicked and the police arrested me from my hotel,” Rai said.
Questioning the government’s action, he added, “Why are these ‘chadhava chor’ (offering thieves), who are involved in land scams and the theft of donations in Ayodhya, so afraid of Ram devotees coming here?”
