Farooq Rehmani remembers Burhan Wani, urges global action on Kashmir

Islamabad: Senior APHC-AJK leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has paid rich tributes to popular youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani on his 10th martyrdom anniversary.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani said Wani was martyred by Indian armed forces on July 8, 2016, in South Kashmir. Reflecting on his legacy, he noted that Wani’s martyrdom brought the entire Kashmir Valley and Chenab region to a standstill, with thousands travelling to his home to pay respects.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir will never forget his great sacrifice for the cause of freedom,” Rehmani stated. “Today, on his 10th martyrdom anniversary, the people of Kashmir again pledge to keep the torch of struggle burning until freedom is achieved.”

He urged the international community to take a proactive role in fostering an environment conducive to an amicable, just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Rehmani emphasized that any lasting peace in South Asia must be rooted in recognition of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
