Omar Abdullah urges immediate restoration of IIOJK statehood
Says demand backed by all sections of society
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged the BJP-led Indian government to restore statehood to the territory without any further delay, saying the demand can no longer be postponed and enjoys overwhelming support across all sections of society.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said around 170 representatives from different walks of life, including religious leaders, traders, retired bureaucrats, educationists and transporters, attended a meeting in Srinagar the other day and unanimously demanded the immediate restoration of statehood to IIOJK.
“Everyone, without any exception, emphasised that it is already too late to restore statehood. Delhi should not delay any longer,” Omar said. He added the meeting unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Indian government to restore statehood to IIOJK without further delay and also endorsed the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20.
Omar Abdullah said that invitations to join the July 20 protest for statehood restoration would be extended to all political parties in IIOJK, including those currently represented in the Assembly as well as those that had been represented in the past. He added that leaders of the INDIA bloc and other political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), would also be invited to participate in the demonstration.
