Indian Army chief visits IIOJK, reviews ongoing military operations, LoC situation

Srinagar : Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth visited the Headquarters of Chinar Corps and various formations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir as part of his maiden tour to the territory, focusing on the ongoing operations in Rajouri, Shopian and the situation along the Line of Control and in the hinterland.

According to Kashmir Media Service, accompanied by Northern Command chief Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and Chinar Corps commander Lt Gen Balbir Singh, the Army Chief was briefed on the ongoing operations inside the territory and the situation on the LoC, besides arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

General Seth also reviewed initiatives related to technology absorption and integrated combat readiness. He visited the 28 Infantry Division in Kupwara and Rashtriya Rifles Sector in Manasbal, assessing military grids supporting the Yatra.

The visit comes shortly after he assumed charge as COAS on June 30. On Tuesday, he called on the Indian-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar.

Analysts say such high-level visits by the Indian military leadership are aimed at further tightening control over occupied Kashmir amid growing resistance and to ensure a heavy militarised environment during the Amarnath Yatra.
