NC workers protest in IIOJK, demand restoration of statehood

Srinagar: Workers of the National Conference (NC) staged protests at district headquarters across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, demanding the restoration of the territory’s statehood.

According to Kashmir Media Service, carrying party flags and placards, the protesters urged the Indian government to fulfil its commitment to restore statehood, which they said had been made before Parliament and the Supreme Court.

The demonstrations were held at Nawai Subuh, the National Conference headquarters in Srinagar, as well as in several district headquarters, including Islamabad and Baramulla.

The protesters maintained that the restoration of statehood was essential for ensuring effective governance and safeguarding the democratic and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention that occupied Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its special status and downgraded into two Union Territories by the Indian government in August 2019, and political parties in the territory have since been demanding the restoration of full statehood.
